The Bates Method
No text on visual reeducation can avoid dealing with the work carried out in the early twentieth century by an ophthalmologist from New York, Dr. William Horatio Bates. He devoted a great deal of his life to developing natural methods of treating visual disorders through appropriate exercises and relaxation. He stated that standard treatments, like the use of a minus lens for “correcting” refractive errors, were completely wrong. He stated that ocular muscular stress and tension were the main reasons for the development of these errors.
